The Bee-otch (as Brett calls Melbourne Beach) and my Coppertone Baby!

A relaxing day at the beach! I just love living in Florida! Jaime, a friend of Vanessa from Indiana, was visiting Kissimmee and stopped by to visit us so we took her to the beach! We packed the station wagon, Adrien's broken leg, Brett's multiple sand castle pails, assorted kitchen utensils, water, and Todd! Off we went! The kids are lotioning each other down..... It was very windy~~~~~we found a jellyfish on the shore that Jaime and Vanessa swear was still alive. They insisted on burying it, and saying a prayer at night for it. Adrien took off his brace and got in the waves for a few minutes. He also was buried in the sand. The funny thing is that Brett was a bit ticked off at him, and decided on his own to invoke some sweet revenge. My coppertone baby! Brett also has heard about "snow angels" but thought about making his own "sand angels"...that is his face after his first attempt! We had a really fun afternoon at the beach...I am trying to talk Todd into moving to Melbourne...:)

Time-Out and a few remarkable experiences! Ahh the tender mercies of the Lord!

I did not intend to participate in the annual "Time Out for Women" conference in Orlando this year due to the cost, but the Lord had other ideas in mind. A good friend felt prompted to purchase two day tickets for me, and followed her prompting. I was delighted that she thought of me and unselfishly purchased the tickets as a "surprise." We arrived on Friday and got great seats. I also had the pleasure of attending with other members that I had not seen in a few years due to their move into another ward. I was so excited and happy just being able to spend time with these awesome women. We got to meet Hillary Weeks, hug Chieko N. Okazaki, and laugh with Mark Mabry. Mark is an excellent photographer..best I have seen. He shot "Reflections of Christ" and it is a beautiful display of the life of Christ. Amy and I felt impressed to do our YW lesson this Sunday on this topic very strongly.Well back to the story...so...we finish with the first day of this awesome event, and it is nearly 11:30 pm before I pull in the driveway. I am exhausted and I have to still do a bit of work before retiring for the night. I have to get back up at 6am to get ready for the 7 hour event tomorrow. I just did not want to go, but I kept thinking of my friend buying me the ticket, and my other friend cranking out 6 loaves of bread that very night for her mother-in-law to sell at the farm the next morning. I felt like I just got to sleep when the alarm went off. We went, and got settled in our seats when I opened the agenda pamphlet. I saw a very familiar face, but could not place the name or the face, but I kept wracking my brain to try and remember. I read Kris Belcher's bio and discovered that she served a mission in the Louisville Kentucky Mission! My brain connected and I realized it was Sister Warner!! Minus the 90's mall hair and a married last name!At the first break I approached her. She was not able to see very well on her mission, but had sight in one of her eyes back then. She lost the rest of her sight after her mission due to tumors in her retina and other areas of her eyes. Even through all of that she remembered my Mom, Oma, and me as well as "baby Vanessa." We wept and hugged each other. We also laughed about our mall hair. She told me of how she remembers my Mom and grandma and even adopted one of my Mom's famous saying of "poopsie" ha ha! I could just feel the love again of my family through our memories of our times together. Kris knew that my Mom had passed. I tried in vain to find her and tell her when the event happened, but I was only able to locate her companion, Sister Ratliff. Sister Ratliff is in Cincinnati and will be seeing Sister Belcher in May when they tour there. What an awesome reunion it will be! Sister Belcher also said, "Diana, I feel prompted to tell you this...when we taught your Oma, she told us that the Gospel is true. She knows that it is the truth. She believes the Book of Mormon, but she could not kick her 65 year habit of smoking. I felt peace at that moment and knew that my grandma accepted the ordinances of baptism that Vanessa had done for her as well as the endowments! What a tender mercy of the Lord! What a gift He gave me. Sister Belcher went on to say that she was glad that we got to reconnect and her heart was full when she realized I married well and, most importantly, got sealed in the Temple. We cried tears of joy! The Lord was not finished. On Sunday I was able to see the Fergusons. They are from my old ward in Indiana! We had a great reunion with their family. They were so good to me while I was a single parent. Vanessa's good friend, Jaime, came over to spend the afternoon. More still to come...Amy presented the lesson to the girls in YW. A small, timid hand was raised and a visiting Beehive girl said "Sister, my uncle is in those pictures." We said "Oh how nice..which one is he?" She said with a small smile that looked eerily familiar, "He is Christ." We were in awe of the love of the Lord. He really touched us all that entire weekend. I feel especially blessed!

My teaching trip to Boston was awesome! I got experience history in a city known for it! I also was on the go from the moment the plane touched the ground! I got to go to Cheers, Fenway Park, Bunker Hill, The USS Constitution, the State House, MIT, Salem, House of Seven Gables,Paul Revere's house, Old North Church, Little Italy, Faneuil Hall, site of the Boston Massacre,Newberry Street,Yawkey Gift Shop,Beacon Hill,Frog Pond, and tasted yummy seafood. I got to stay at the Park Plaza Hotel. It was a wonderful conference with excellent speakers, one being the acclaimed author, David McCullough. I will always remember a statement that he made that I have always lived by, "You have to take your children to the historic places for them to remember it."
It was a really wonderful trip! I walked miles and miles each day!

"But Mom I didn't drop it "......

Well, I have never broken any bones in my body --ever. I thought I would make it through my childrens' childhood by saying that they have never broken anything....then comes a warm winter Florida morning at middle school...I drop off my son, and go inside to visit with my old comrades, and twenty minutes later (I talk a lot) the nurse comes in and says seriously, "Diana...can you come with me?" I walk into her office and there is my Adrien on a cot shaking in pain...In the morning the 8th graders get together to work on their "football skillz" ..a pigskin pass was heading for Adrien....he runs quickly, jumps high and catches it! The crowd goes wild!!! then he slams into the metal bleachers...on his leg. The coaches get an office chair and hold his leg while wheeling him to the other side of the campus...the nurse said "take him to the emergency room..and whispered--it is broken..I think." So I am asking Adrien to tell me what happened..he said " but...Mom, I did not drop the ball..I caught it." The folks at the hospital were fabulous..(it is a country hospital and they actually CARE about people)..They did not even ask me for insurance or anything when we arrived--he went straight in. He fractured it pretty good...you can see in the middle where he took the hit..he was in a lot of pain...it is just difficult to see anyone in pain and not be able to really do much, but comfort them. They put this cool looking splint on him that foamed up into a cast-like substance. Well the orthopedic doctor saw him a few hours later and decided that he needed to wear a boot, and have some crutches....for 6-8 weeks. No more wrestling, PE or any contact sports for 3 months. Adrien is pretty devastated. He won his matches last week in wrestling. I think he growing accustomed to being injured...he is enjoying his "caterer" Todd. Adrien also made some comments to Todd about how he hated being in bed and always resting and hurting. He said "Todd, this must be sorta like how you feel when you have gout."...I think Todd appreciated him thinking of the pain Todd had went through for so long, and trying to relate to it. I just hope he mends quickly, so he can play his beloved sports again!

My "BMW" ....Big Mormon Wagon second generation

Yes, we purchased another car...the woody station wagon. A classic surfer car...and accommodating to a YM/YW leadership household. It seats NINE people. The seat in the back pops up, and the car has only 80k miles on it! A little old lady kept it in her garage and never really drove it much...I know...the story is actually true!:) This car reminds me of my childhood and Todd said it reminds him of his. His family used to have a station wagon they called BMW, so we thought it would only be appropriate to name this in memory of their Brown wagon... The next picture is the air freshener I found from the Transformers movie....I thought it was appropriate since I am a Beehive adviser and live an hour away from the beach...the next picture is Brett helping Todd take care of our "fleet." He is very intense and wet...glad it was 85 yesterday..sigh. Vanessa and Adrien are not very happy about this purchase. (I wonder if that is because Vanessa thinks she will be stuck driving the car). Brett can't wait to ride in the very back...Todd just wants the guy to pick up the Volvo....I am happy that we have a paid off car! I am thinking of getting a "Dukes of Hazzard" horn installed....
