CONSERVATIVE ACTIVISM-THEOBALD STYLE

Drill,

Baby

Drill! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO! One more thing checked off our "TO DO LIST" before we die! We have attended our very first political rally! Our next thing to do is... let's see (walk on moon, cliff diving, WWE mud wrestling...oh! here it is.. picketing...We are such conservative activists!I also want to be thrown in jail for a good cause like picketing an abortion clinic, but Todd is not too keen on that idea. I told him I am sure he would make friends quick in the big house... Anywho..It was exhilarating! We saw Sean Hannity, Elizabeth Hasselbeck(what's her name from that leftist show, "The View"), and I ACTUALLY heard the crowd chant "Rush!" "Rush"--I almost fainted as the women did in the early days of Obama's race....I thought Rush Limbaugh had shown up..!!! I ADORE HIM! It was not him....:( Todd was cheering for his guy, Todd Palin! Todd likes Todd. I think it is a name thing. Sarah, delivered an inspiring message. I really like her 'cause she reminds me of, well, me! She has a funny accent, likes to shoot guns, holds onto religion, loves children, is a straight shooter, and used to host a news show. Ok, Ok, I did not host a news show, but I was on the staff of my high school and college newspapers...close enough. I looked dazed in this pic--I was "High" on capitalism! :)

SIX FOR THE ROAD--TLC

Our family is SOOO excited! Friends of ours that lived in our ward for about 3 months last year have their own reality show!Kati and Vern spent the Christmas Eve with us last year as they are living on the road in an RV. Our annual Christmas Eve party is pretty fun :) Auvi is a good friend of Vanessa and Adrien, and I taught Zoe in Sunday school. Vern is a pretty cool dude--he travels around the world catching rare butterflies. Kati is awesome! I accidentally chipped her dip serving dish, and she was like "No big deal". They are really easy going, nice people! We were sad to see them leave our ward, but realize that they needed to use their RV! We just heard via Vanessa that they are planning on coming back to our ward for a few months!Yippee!

The Office--Freaking LOVE that show!

The Theobalds are OFFICE FREAKS!We love the show....Todd kinda looks like Dwight K. Schrute, too. :) Every Friday we watch this show on the Internet! We don't have cable because we think it is a satanic tool used to corrupt our minds, and, well,..OK... we are trying to save $$ Hee Hee! Our family owns Season 1 and 2 and we watch it over and over and over..we need to get season 3!My favorite character is Stanley/Jim...I think I am a combo of the two! Adrien likes Todd Packer...reasons are obvious! Todd likes Dwight..Vanessa likes Jim and Bretty likes Michael. The show reminds me a lot of when I worked in several offices...and the pranks I used to play on people! Sigh! Those were the days! Saran wrapped toilets, swapping out people's lunches, Limburger cheese wrappers placed strategically under chairs, popping off keyboard letters, and generally getting no work done! Those were the days!!

Sir Walter Raleigh..Our Esteemed Hound

Our ONLY favorite kind of dog at the Theobald house is the English Bulldog. We don't like "sissy" dogs,"poofy" dogs, "dumb" dogs, or "tall" dogs..just slobbery, slightly asmatic, low maintence, Good old American Dogs! English is close enough!
I have been amiss at not introducing the Theobald hound, Sir Walter Raleigh aka "Rahls" He is not a very active dog unless you are a missionary over for a visit or a meal...watch out for your leg! He tends to slobber a bit especially when he shakes his head...it goes flying! He also snores, sleeps, and farts a lot and likes his butt scratched...kinda like my 75 year old Dad. (Love ya POPS!) He is really not a great watch dog unless you have his favorite chew toy in hand then he growls. He really does not like to play catch. We think it is a stupid game too!He would rather growl at the blow-up pool toys and get angry when you dive in the pool. I also think he is a Republican dog...he never urinates on our McCain/Palin yard sign, but he sure craps all over the neighbors Obama sign...Man, I love that dog!

Sometimes it is just nice to be alone..

I am just sitting alone in my living room. Everyone is asleep. The tv is off. All I can hear is the gentle snoring of Raleigh, our English Bulldog and the squeaking of the clothes dryer reminding me I have one more load to do. I am so relaxed with the feel of the ceiling fan's gentle puffs of air on my skin....what a gift to be quiet and alone for just a few minutes. Totally quiet, relaxed and serene. Ahhhhh. No demands are being made on me or my time. I am not worrying or feeling any kind of emotion other than absolute peace. Thank you, Jesus Christ, for this moment of peace.

Harmony High team dances with the Stars

|Sentinel Staff Writer

HARMONY - Time to get your fox trot on.

A team of high-school dancers is riding the forefront of a ballroom-dance frenzy, fueled in part by a hit TV show. Harmony High's ballroom-dance team will be high-stepping this weekend with two of the professionals, Tony Dovolani and Elena Grinenko, from ABC's Dancing With the Stars.

"Most people were completely clueless about ballroom dance before Dancing With the Stars," said Christian Bastian, who coaches the team with his wife, Hillary.

"We used to tell our kids to take that as an advantage. Nobody knows if you're doing it right or wrong, so just go out there and smile real big; they'll think you're great," Hillary Bastian said.

This year, the Bastians had to turn away kids who tried out for the team. That's what a national championship, four years of shuffling your feet around the country and the TV competition that partners celebrities with professional dancers can do.

Now, Hillary said, "It has become a little more difficult because people know what it is supposed to look like."

Those who attend shows Friday or Saturday or a series of Saturday workshops will get an even closer look at how Dovolani and Grinenko strut their stuff.

Dovolani and Marissa Jaret Winokur, who originated the role of Tracy Turnblad in Broadway's Hairspray, were eliminated from the TV show Tuesday. Although she's not competing this season, Grinenko has partnered with Tucker Carlson and Clyde Drexler in past seasons. The success of pro athletes such as Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith and Jason Taylor has widened the appeal.

There's no doubt that the show has helped expose the pastime to millions, and several high schools in Central Florida -- including Seminole, Lake Mary and St. Cloud -- offer classes or clubs.

The teens at Harmony say dancing is a good way to make friends.

"When I first started, I didn't know about the ballroom program," said Dennys Garcia, a junior. "I think it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I didn't know any dancing. I barely could walk. It was something new."

Former Harmony Principal Dan Parker was looking for something different to offer when the school opened four years ago.

"I thought as kids got involved with it and had fun with the program, it would probably grow," Parker said. "If a good person is behind the program, it is going to be successful and provide what kids want. Obviously, it has done that."

Early on, Parker remembers some dances in the cafeteria and was amazed by how many people attended and how much fun they had.

Kevin Gonzalez, a senior, watched his brother and found it interesting. He says some of his friends tease him about dancing, but "I really don't care about their comments because I love doing dance."

Hillary and Christian Bastian danced at Brigham Young University, where they met. BYU is a powerhouse at the college level, they said, and many surrounding high schools field competitive teams.

When the couple started at Harmony, 16 kids signed up. Christian said boys can be reluctant at first. But once they realize that contact with girls is involved, they eagerly join.

"I just like that I get to make a lot of friends," said junior Codi Justesen. "It's something you can do that is enjoyable at school. Dancing is just really fun."

Dennys and Codi won first-place titles at nationals last year. This year the team has danced at a State Department event, at universities and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The 32 members of the squad spend hours practicing.

"It's like our second family," Dennys said.

The Bastians hope to raise $10,000 this weekend to support the program, which is not funded by the school.

Appearances by Dovolani and Grinenko should help. Team members met the pair in September, when they performed at the same Tampa event. The team and the professional dancers met again in December, when the pair invited the team to perform at the Walt Disney World Christmas parade.

"We are all so excited about it," said senior Erica Wiese.

"Like Mr. Bastian said, 'They are like the Michael Jordan of ballroom dancing.' "
